Clinical Hypnotherapy is a non-invasive therapy that helps you deeply relax while gently increasing your ability to block out external stimuli. It brings you to a state of focused, altered awareness. Hypnosis is best understood as the tool/modality the therapist uses to help you enter a more receptive state and facilitate the delivery of your personalised therapy.
The first consultation lasts 1.5hrs, and approximately 1hr of this time is spent undertaking the assessment discussion. This helps the Hypnotherapist understand the issues you wish to address, and tease out important information. They will also work with you to formulate your treatment reflecting your goals, aspirations and resources.
The therapist then guides you into relaxation and delivers your personalised treatment.
No two people experience Hypnosis in the same way. Some people describe it as being in a dreamlike place and to others it’s similar to the relaxation we feel the moments just before we drift off to sleep.
Some people believe that they can’t relax or can’t be ‘hypnotised’, but they are often surprised to realise that despite being intelligent and strong-willed individuals they can easily achieve very deep hypnotic relaxation.
It's worth noting that individuals who report being very stressed, anxious and restless often easily and quickly enter a state of very deep relaxation.

Hypnotherapy is completely safe when applied by a qualified professional. Hypnotherapy is suitable, and can be helpful to most people, however in very rare circumstances, the therapist may suggest you seek out the advice of a health professional, such as your GP, before embarking on a course of therapy.
This is why it is essential that your assessment is undertaken with a skilled, registered Hypnotherapist to ensure you receive treatment that is appropriate and safe for you .
Hypnosis is a collaborative treatment. You will be working in partnership with the therapist, and you can choose how deeply into trance you go. The therapist will assist you with this, but cannot force you to do anything you don't want to do, and you absolutely cannot get stuck in a trance!
Just think about it, we all go in and out of a light trance every day, without realising it. When you are gripped by a great film or become immersed in a book, you lose awareness of everything else going on around you, but should your phone or doorbell ring, that 'trance', is immediately broken - it's that simple!
Hypnotherapy is a brief therapy. For habit breaking and smoking cessation, one or two sessions will likely be enough. Other issues such as anxiety, stress, or low mood might require 3-6 sessions. Generally, weight management, menopause/peri-menopause management and Fertility Support are delivered over a course of 6 sessions to maximise success and develop alternative, resourceful strategies.
