Like a lot of people, I find talking or writing about myself quite challenging, but I hope this will give you a little insight into what I believe I can offer, and what I influences my practice as a Therapist and more importantly, as a person.
I was born (I won't divulge when, as a lady never reveals her age) and raised in Ayrshire, and I'm very proud of my roots. I have been blessed with a very loving family, two immensely wonderful daughters, a beautiful baby Grandson, some kind and funny friends, and I have my furry family members too, who keep me on my toes.
I've had the greatest privilege of a long and enriching career as an NHS Mental Health Nurse, working with some amazing individuals from all walks of life and of all ages.
I have been gifted with a love of making and listening to music, and am a rusty amateur violinist with the Ayrshire Symphony Orchestra, a huge fan of R.E.M. and a lover of classical music too.
Recently I have reconnected with my greatest passion- art, specifically charcoal portraiture. I began art lessons in January 2025, after a break of almost 30yrs. During this rather long hiatus I had made numerous attempts to reignite my passion for creating, but struggled to find my inspiration, and all attempts felt futile and really so frustrating.
My life has not always felt easy, I have, periodically, experienced significant challenges with feelings of deep unrest and sadness, but on reflection these times have generated new growth, greater hope and a clearer sense of purpose. I have travelled down many different paths, sometimes only to learn 'this is not the way', but I have always brought back something of value. The occasions that I have reached out to others for guidance and support have been, without a doubt, the most transformative of all.
I hope this very brief glimpse into my world brings you a sense of what matters to me and how I approach working with others. We are all in this thing called life together. Some of us have huge burdens to carry, and at times may find some growth through sharing our load with others, trusting them to guide us back to our faith, our inner wisdom and rich array of resources.
My journeys throughout my personal life are interwoven with my professional path, and the courses below reflect this to a degree:
